General Information : Welcome to the London & Southern Counties Region.
The London & Southern Counties Regional Committee (L&SCRC) is responsible for organising and running the London & Southern Counties Regional qualifying contest of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. The contest is run under the rules of the National Brass Band Championships (and therefore also rules of the Brass Band Players Registry) as stipulated by Kapitol Promotions, the organiser of the Championship Finals.
Members of the L&SCRC are drawn from the local brass band associations (Bucks & District, East Anglia, London & Home Counties, Oxford & District, Southern Counties), plus three Executives of the Regional Committee (Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary) and a Property Master. A membership form is not required.
Individual bands are not members of L&SCRC but may be represented by their local association representative. Contact details are available from the L&SC website. Bands may contact the Regional Secretary directly. Correspondence can only be entered into with the nominated band representative (usually either the Secretary or Contest Secretary).
Our Interim Chair is Yvonne Owers; the Regional Secretary is Kevin Williams and the Treasurer is Christine Wade. In addition, our Property Master is Bob Berwick and our Interim Safeguarding Lead is Jane Stewart.
Our Safeguarding Policy and Constitution are available on our website. Should a safeguarding concern arise in connection with the Regional Contest, Jane Stewart can be contacted on 07980 407831.
Entry to the contest is conditional on each band having its own Safeguarding Policy and named Safeguarding/Welfare Lead. The Regional Safeguarding Lead will liaise with the Band Safeguarding/Welfare Lead should any concern arise. This should be a 2-way process. The contest will apply to use Brass Bands England (BBE) Body of Persons Approval (BoPA) to allow young people to take part.
Entrant bands are responsible for gathering and bringing to the contest any information required, and for adhering to the Terms & Conditions of the BoPA.
A copy of the terms and conditions is available on our website. You should also have contact details and any relevant medical information for your adult members. You do not need to supply L&SCRC with this information – just have it with you.
Individual bands are required to ensure that their members behave responsibly and respect others (specifically including Regional Contest Volunteers and staff working for the contest venue) at the contest. Rude, aggressive or otherwise unacceptable behaviour may be dealt with by the Regional Secretary in accordance with the contest rules. Band members are expected to comply with any reasonable instructions issued by Regional Contest Volunteers or venue staff, particularly in the event of any emergency situation.
Our other policies and procedures can be found on our website. Band Secretaries/Contest Secretaries are expected to be familiar with these policies and procedures and to ensure that members of their bands know where to find them.
